Get the kids out of the flat and show them some First Republic fashion, play with period machine guns and hang out in a concentration camp this weekend. Czechs are marking 70 years since the assassination of Reinhard…

The Lock Bridge
Prague, Czech Republic
This tradition of the lock bridge is actually really fascinating. The tradition is that whenever a couple gets married, they write their initials on a lock, lock it to the bridge, and then throw the key in the water. Pretty cool right?
There’s one in Korea, one in France… one in Prague?! :3

The Cataracts by Andrew McConnell
Here in The Cataracts, Irish photographer Andrew McConnell braves the rapids of the Congo River to document the amazing Wagenia fishermen going about their daily catch—a livelihood that goes back centuries. Andrew takes the viewer into the midst of this drama: he is literally in the churning water, and in some pictures captures the perspective of the fish being caught.
For some of the shots I used a waterproof housing so that I could get low in the water and get a different perspective. I didn’t use the housing when I was on the tolimos because it made shooting very difficult. And after a while I didn’t use it in the pirogues (wooden canoes) either because, even though we were navigating some heavy white water, I found that the fishermen were so skillful at steering through the rapids that I never felt worried about capsizing—in fact, I barely got wet. Much to my astonishment a fisherman would sometimes dive into a raging torrent and just as I’d be thinking, my God we’ll never see that guy again, he would pop up beside a pirogue 30 yards away.
Andrew has traveled extensively, and his work covers a range of subjects. His enigmatic portraits, called The Last Colony,” document Sahrawi refugees and won the World Press Photo award for Portraits in 2011. Surf’s Up in Gaza ran in Newsweek International and won the Society of Publication Designers award in the category for Feature: News/Reportage.
For Andrew’s full account of shooting “The Cataracts,” read an interview here. And visit our Tumblr’s page to watch a wonderful short film he made about this project. This is so awesome. To begin by always thinking of love as an action rather than a feeling is one way in which anyone using the word in this manner automatically assumes accountability and responsibility.

Topping our to-do list
Calo des Moro beach, San Antonio, Ibiza. Where we’ll be setting ourselves up for the forseeable future in the event that the European Union goes tits up. Not that Spain’s economic health’s any better than Greece’s and bearing in mind it’s tipped to be next in line once the contagion spreads from a potential Greece downfall. Seriously, though, where better to weather the storm for a year or two?! Preferably with an economically stable currency in tow.

George Lucas Strikes Back of the Day: Star Wars creator George Lucas has been trying for years to convert a large parcel of land in Marin County, California into a 300,000 square foot movie studio, with amenities including a day care center, restaurants, a gym and a parking garage, only to be shot down by his wealthy neighbors.
Because the local homeowners’ association has refused to let Lucas move forward with the studio, he’s decided to put the land to good use by transforming it into low-income housing, simultaneously doing a good deed and trolling his fellow landowners.
“If everyone feels that housing is less impactful on the land, then we are hoping that people who need it the most will benefit,” Lucas snarked.
He’s even donating the various studies and surveys he paid for while working on the movie studio project, to help the new housing development get underway more quickly.
That might be almost enough to outweigh creating Jar Jar Binks.
